Private John Darkes of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania served from 1861-2 with the 93rd Infantry Pennsylvania , was wounded in action at Fair Oaks, Virginia, May 31, 1862 and was mustered out.In January 1864 he again enlisted, this time with the 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry and served to the end of the War An Original Civil War Discharge for Pvt Darkes, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry issued at Lynchburg, Virginia, July 1, 1865. The Discharge is signed by Captain GW Moss, his Company commander, and by Captain FA Kendall, 4th NHV as Mustering Out officer. Comes w service info for Private Darkes. The 4th Pa Cavalry saw a lot of combat, and Pvt Darkes took part in Sheridan\'s Raids around Richmond, also at Bristoe Station, Yellow Tavern, Hatchers Run , and saw its final battle at Farmville, VA .Captain Moss was wounded in action at Trevilian Station, VA but recovered to serve to the End of the War. The 1p 8 x11\" printed/ink Discharge is on heavy tan color stockand bears the Fedral eagle logo, The Discharge has age stains, wear at edges and fold, but is in VG Condition Overall.
