CIVIL WAR FORT REYNOLDS ARLINGTON VA 1ST CONNECTICUT HEAVY ARTILLERY PASS For Sale

Fort Reynolds was built to defend Arlington, Virginia from rebel attacks by way of the valley of Four Mile Run. The redoubt was originally named Fort Blenker but renamed in 1863 to honor General John K Reynolds, killed at Gettusburg. Fort Reynolds Park is named for the outpost. An Original Civil War Pass issued to Sergeant Joseph Tucker of Company A, 1st CT Heavy Artillery allowing him to travel to Washington and return the same day. The Pass was issued by Captain Edward A Gillette as Company Commander, approved by Major Leverett G Hemingway, Battalion commander, and again approved by Lt Bela Peck Learned by Command of Colonel Abbott. The Pass is approx 8 x 3.75" on lined paper . 1p ptd/ink, edge wear, age stains, folds, Overall VG. Comes w service info- The famous First CT Heavy Artillery served in every major campaign in Virginia. A full size model of it's giant mortar nicknamed "Dictator" sits on the lawn of the Connecticut State House. Sergeant Tucker served 3 years with the 1st CT HA as did Major Hemingway. Captain Gillette was wounded at Petersburg in 1864 and discharged, Lt Learned of Norwich, CT served to the End of the War.
