One of the nicest Original C&I color lithos I have had in ages- An Original Mourning Memorial showing a woman weeping as she leans on a gravestone, "In Memory of " with ink filled in " Willis H Gifford 5. N.Y. Artillery who died at Cedar Creek October 13 1864". The 14.1 x 11.75" Memorial Comes w service info- Private Gifford enlisted at Afton, NY December 1863 and was KIA October 13, 1864 at Cedar Creek Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. He left behind a widow and 3 children. The 5th served as both artillery and infantry.. Similar online examples can be seen at the Springfield Museum.Org, the New Hampshire Historical Society, the American Antiquarian Society and the Library of Congress (Wikiimedia).. The litho retains it rich colors and shows age darkening on margins and reverse as it was originally framed in a Civil War era wood back frame. The lithograph has one tiny pinhole in lower left edge, and is in Overall Fine Condition.
