Bachelor's Creek, NC, near New Bern, was the site of a skirmish with Rebel General's Hoke's force, but also the site of the Explosion of a wagon-load of ordnance at the Military RR Depot, killing over 75 soldiers of the132nd NY. In 1862 Company C of the 3rd NY Light Artillery, aka "The Cayuga Regiment" of Seneca Falls, NY was assigned to New Bern, North Carolina taking part in fighting at Bachelors Creek, Whiting, Kinston, The Weldon RR Expedition. Wise's Fork & Goldsboro, suffering over 300 losses from fever. An Original Civil War Return for Company C , 3rd New York Artillery at Bachelor's Creek, North Carolina for May 1862 signed by Company Commander Captain James E Ashcorft, listing it's original regimental commander as Colonel James H Ledlie ( the notorious commander of the disastrous Crater Assault Petersburg, VA in 1864) .
