The piece above is from a prominent East Bay Chinese/American Home in CA. This is an estate sale piece. We estimate it from the period of arrival in the US as prior to 1940. The carving is exquisite and not found on more recent arrivals.The image shows a finely hand-carved wooden sculpture of Guanyin (Kwan-yin), the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, mounted on an intricate openwork carved base.
