Black Tara
Black Tara isthe fierce, compassionate protector who obliterates all obstacles and evil. Sheembodies the ultimate wrathful power of the Buddha’s activity for the benefitof all beings. She is the primary Tara invoked when a practitionerbelieves they are subject to harmful magical workings, curses, or evilintentions directed at them. She cuts through these forces completely ratherthan deflecting or neutralizing them.
Black Tara subdues and transforms all classes of harmful non-human beings including demons, malevolent spirits, hungry ghosts, and various other harm-doers described in Tibetan cosmology. When negative karma is so heavy that ordinary purification practices feel insufficient, Black Tara\'s practice is said to burn through even the most deeply entrenched obscurations. Her practice is particularly powerful for destroying the illusion of a fixed, permanent self which is believed to be the root of all suffering in Buddhist philosophy. She does this not gently but with the force of a lightning bolt.
Black Tara is called upon in times of deep psychological or spiritual upheaval, psychic attack, and intense inner transformation. She holds the space for radical change when nothing gentler can.
Alongside Blue Tara, she transforms anger, which is one of the most destructive of the five poisons. Together the two Taras change anger into clear mirror-like wisdom: the clarity that perceives all things without distortion.
In traditions linking her to Kali Tara, she is invoked for relief from poverty caused by negative forces, removal of financial curses, and economic recovery after damage from hostile energies.
