Black Tourmaline, well crystallized, Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico For Sale

Excellent older specimen with stocky, partially double terminated black Toumaline crystals, from Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. This locality is well known for so called \"Velvet\" Tourmaline, a silky, hairbrush like tourmaline style, which forms sprays on quartz matrix. I believe this variety was later determined to be Dravite series, rather than Schorl. Another Tourmaline variant at the locality is the one you see here, and sporadically entered the market as early as the late 1960\'s I believe, which features masses of stocky, double terminated intergrown crystals, which loosely resemble the black Tourmalines coming from Namibia in more modern times. However, the ones from Mexico form usually more dense masses, and have a slightly tabular build. I would not be surprised if analysis will aslso, or has already, determined thse to be in the Dravite Tourmaline series as well, even though they visually resemble schorl. anyhow, this is an excellent piece from an old collection, better than the photo\'s show.This specimen is 219 grams in weight, or 7 3/4 oz.
