About bismuth:
Our bismuth crystals are made from 99.99% refined bismuth ore that is melted and allowed to cool in a controlled manner. The rainbow color is the result of a thin layer of bismuth oxide that forms spontaneously when the freshly pulled, hot crystals are first exposed to air.
The natural color layer of bismuth is soluble in various acids. So, to preserve the color of your crystals, avoid contact with acidic liquids e.g., lemon juice, vinegar, etc. Also, over-handling can affect the color of bismuth but normal handling is fine.
As with many mineral specimens bismuth can have sharp edges and should be handled carefully. It should be kept out of reach of young children.
