Christianity first gained a foothold in Denmark about the 10th C. Until about 1536 Catholicism reigned supreme in Denmark. Then cam ethe Reformation and the Lutheran principles took root and still govern the church. According to the Danish Constitution the Lutheran Church is the National Church of Denmark, and as such is supported by the State. The confessional scriptures of the national Church are the Old and New Testaments, the 3 symbols of the primitive church (the Creed, the Nicene and the Athanasian symbols), the original unaltered Augsburg Declaration of Faith of 1530, and Luther\'s Little Catechism.
