1899 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate The Crows Enjoying Christmas by Dahl Jensen, 7\", no box, no certificate, indent on back of plate.

This plate shows 2 crows sitting on a snow-covered tree branch on Christmas Eve. Perhaps they are aware that somehow the world is a little different on this one night of the year. Surely they have noticed and taken advantage of the sheaves of wheat put out on poles by the Danish farmers at Christmas time. Crows are quite numerous in Denmark and because they are often a nuisance, they are sometimes killed by the farmers.

The scene on this plate is from the island of Als in Southern Jutland. The church in the background is the old Notmark Church which was constructed in Romanesque style hundreds of years ago of granite boulders and consecrated to Our Lady. In the Middle Ages the choir was enlarged and a tower added. The gables of this tower were placed north and south as was the custom on the island of Funen.
