HISTORY:
Jorge Luis Borges (1899 - 1986)was an Argentine writer, poet, essayist, and translator, widely considered a key figure in both Spanish-language literature and universal literature. His two best-known books,Ficciones and El Aleph, published in the 1940s, are collections of short stories connected by common themes such as dreams, mazes, libraries, mirrors, fictional authors, and European mythologies; its arguments explore philosophical ideas related, for example, to memory, eternity, postmodernism and metafiction.Borges's work has contributed widely to philosophical literature, the fantastic genre, and post-structuralism, and profoundly influenced magical realism in Latin American literature during the 20th century.Herenewed the language of fiction, thus opening the road to a generation of Spanish-American novelists».Awarded numerous distinctions, he was also controversial for his conservative political stances; the importance of these continues to be the cause of debate, particularly due to the possibility that they have prevented him from obtaining the Nobel Prize in Literature, for which he was a candidate for almost thirty years.
Julio Cortázar (1914 - 1984)was a writer, teacher and translator, a job he carried out for Unesco and various publishers. In 1981, without renouncing his Argentine nationality, he opted for French in protest against the military dictatorship in his country. , which banned his books and which he denounced to the international press from his residence in Paris.Considered one of the most innovative and original authors of his time, he was a master of short stories, poetic prose, and short stories in general. He was also the creator of important novels, especially Hopscotch, which contributed to the renewal of the genre in the Hispanic sphere.Together with Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa and Carlos Fuentes, he is one of the central exponents of the Latin American boom.
