Offered here is an exceptional matched pair of authentic passenger ship "Safety at Sea" stateroom information placards dating to approximately the 1940s–early 1950s. These are original shipboard displays, designed to provide passengers with emergency instructions, lifeboat station assignments, and steward information while aboard a passenger liner. Each placard is housed in its original painted wooden frame and retains its original sliding lower insert—an increasingly difficult feature to find on surviving examples. One still bears the handwritten steward's name, "O. Lambert," while the other retains its original lifeboat station assignment. The reverse of one frame also carries the handwritten notation "Steerage End," offering a fascinating glimpse into its working life aboard ship. Extensive research uncovered documented examples of nearly identical placards associated with United States Lines passenger liners, including the legendary SS United States. Those examples share the same overall layout, interchangeable insert system, and passenger information format. However, because these particular placards do not retain a ship designation or other definitive provenance, they cannot be conclusively attributed to a specific vessel. Rather than speculate, they are offered exactly as authentic vintage passenger liner artifacts, accompanied by the historical context uncovered during our research. Unlike later documented examples housed in aluminum frames, this pair retains beautifully aged painted wooden frames whose warm patina complements their historic character and display appeal.
