This is a very nice SET of 3 GREETINGS postcardsfrom the publisher TUCK & SONS that reference Charles Dickens, and are part of the \"In Dickens Land\" postcard sets. This set was first introduced in 1903. Three are part of the Oilette Series #1164, and one from #1163. The postcards are colorful and attractive, and they have good detail, as well as the \"classic\" Tuck look that they originated during the early 1900\'s.
This set of Dickens postcards includes: Gateway Lincoln\'s Inn, Courtyard \"Bull\" Inn Rochester, Chas. Dickens\'s study, Gadshill, and Mr. Pickwick\'s adventure, the lady with the yellow curl papers.
These postcards are \"WORKS OF ART\". The paintings are very detailed with impressive house architecture and decor, background skyline, historic buildings, etc. In these views, you also have a horse, a carriage, people walking, a vendor, etc. These are good indications of life back in the early 1900s, and where a famous person lived.
These postcards are UNPOSTED and would have been published around 1903 era. One of these has an UNDIVIDED back. They were most likely \"Printed In Germany\" and part of a set of 6.
These postcards were published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, who is an important and valued publisher. They published in England from 1866 through the mid 1960s. They first started with publishing Christmas cards printed in their native Prussia, Germany. They are noted for high quality postcards that have a huge appeal tocollectors. Tuck\'s \"Oilette\" Series with views was first issued in 1903, came in sets, and became their most popular cards, and a standard model for other publishers. The firm was so well respected that they had the honor of being appointed by Queen Victoria in 1894 as the \"Art Publishers to their Majesties the King & Queen of the United Kingdom.\"
