🦁 ANTIQUE “THE BRITISH LION” MILK GLASS COVERED DISH 🦁


A beautiful and uncommon late Victorian milk glass covered dish dating to approximately 1895–1900.


The fitted lid features a detailed reclining lion with a flowing mane, resting inside an oval milk glass base. The front is molded with the raised banner “THE BRITISH LION” above decorative foliage.


📚 DOCUMENTED COLLECTOR PIECE

This form is documented as Belknap No. 165D in classic milk glass reference material. The original manufacturer remains unidentified.

• Circa 1895–1900

• Approximately 125–130 years old

• Complete two-piece covered dish

• Raised “THE BRITISH LION” lettering

• Approx. 6 1/4" long

• Approx. 4 1/2" tall


🔎 CONDITION

The lion lid is excellent with no chips or cracks. The base has one small rough spot along the upper edge on one side that is difficult to notice when displayed. There is also a small manufacturing mark on the inside of the dish, shown in photos, which cannot be seen when assembled and displayed.


A wonderful piece for the antique milk glass, Victorian glass, EAPG, figural, or lion collector.
