Beautiful strand of large old yellow glass melon-form African trade beads.
This strand contains approximately 20 substantial glass beads in shades ranging from bright golden yellow and mustard to honey and amber. Each bead has the characteristic ribbed or “melon” form, with beautiful variations and striations visible in the glass. No two are exactly alike.
These appear consistent with old European/Venetian glass beads made for the African trade, although exact age and place of manufacture have not been independently authenticated.
The beads have wonderful variation from manufacture, age and use. Several show especially attractive layered or striped coloration in the glass.
