This is an original antique (very early 20th century) wood and gesso hexagon shaped picture frame featuring eagle crest and stars, flags, and olive branch decorations around the top, bottom, and sides. The frame has the original multi-toned gold finish, and three original period George Washington post cards inside. The glass and paper/cardboard backing and hanging wire have been replaced.
Condition is very good. There is some damage to the gesso decorations on the frame (part of a star is missing and the eagle is cracked across the front with some wing chips) and a couple small chips on the inside edge of the frame, but everything else is intact, tight, and secure. The entire frame has acquired an aged patina but little wear otherwise and the cards are in very good condition with only minor edge wear and probably a little fading.
Outer dimensions of the frame are 13\" W x 19 1/2\" H and the opening in the back measures about 10\" W x 15\" H. It will be packed securely and fully insured during shipping.
