Antique WWI Trench Art Shell Case Vases Pair 1918 – Engraved Brass – 30 cm.
Offered for sale is an attractive matching pair of tall, engraved brass shell-case vases, measuring approximately 30 cm in height.
These distinctive pieces feature finely engraved floral and foliate designs, scalloped decorative tops and original-looking side-mounted brass fittings. The aged brass has developed a beautiful antique patina, giving both pieces an authentic historical appearance.
The bases bear stamped markings, including the year1918, suggesting that the original shell cases date from the final year of the First World War. They may have been converted into decorative trench art during the closing period of the war or in the years immediately afterward.
Trench art was produced by soldiers, craftsmen and civilian workshops, transforming military materials into decorative objects and keepsakes. This matching pair would make an interesting addition to a collection of First World War memorabilia, antique brass, military history or vintage interior décor.
