Antique WWI Illuminated Diptych In Flanders Fields & Moina Michael Victory...:
$135.00

Up for sale is an incredibly rare, museum-quality piece of World War I commemorative history. This antique folding wooden diptych plaque features beautiful, illuminated renderings of two legendary poems.

  • Left Panel: The iconic war poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.

  • Right Panel: The historically significant companion piece, "The Victory Emblem" written by Moina Belle Michael (The "Poppy Lady") in November 1918. [1, 2, 3]

Both panels are beautifully styled in the fashion of historic illuminated manuscripts, highlighting rich gold accents, deep colors, and exquisite hand-colored illustrative details of cemetery crosses, battlefield fields, and symbolic mourning figures. The panels are housed within matching, heavily decorated Arts & Crafts patterned wooden frames connected by sturdy original hinges that allow the piece to stand beautifully as a freestanding display.

A magnificent collectible piece for military historians, WWI enthusiasts, and collectors of antique period ephemera.

  • Full Width (Fully Open): 8 1/2 inches

    • Height: 9 inches

    Condition Details:

    • Front View: Exceptional antique condition. The illuminated graphics, text, and golden borders remain exceptionally crisp, vibrant, and beautifully un-faded under the glass.

    • Frame: The solid wooden frames are tight and structurally strong. The original hinges function perfectly, folding smoothly.

    • Reverse Side: The back panels retain their original green/gray backing paper, showing typical vintage shelf wear, including minor tearing and chipping along the upper edge of the right panel that exposes a sliver of the underlying wood backing (visible in photos).

    • Sold strictly as-found in its beautiful, honest antique state. Please see all photos for close-up condition.
