Original World War II US Army Air Forces personal archive identified to S/Sgt Vincent T. Pontus of Jersey City, NJ, associated with the Ninth Air Force, European Theater of Operations.
This is a well-rounded and highly personal grouping that includes photographs, documents, clippings, correspondence, and insignia, all preserved together in the original album format.
A major highlight of this collection is a 6-page handwritten letter dated February 15, 1945, sent in an original airmail envelope. The letter is written in period cursive and contains deeply personal wartime content, describing the illness and passing of a family member, with detailed emotional and situational accounts. This is not a generic letter but a substantial, narrative-style correspondence that adds significant historical and personal depth to the archive.
Contents include:
Named WWII USAAF material (Vincent T. Pontus)
Ninth Air Force / European Theater references
Original photographs (aircraft, personnel, period scenes)
