Antique Victorian / Early 1900s Spider Web Place Card Holder
Wonderful antique figural place card holder featuring an intricately hand-worked wire spider web with a dimensional spider positioned at the center.
The web is constructed from extremely fine twisted wire wrapped around heavier structural spokes. The spider has a detailed dimensional body with applied wire decoration and individually formed legs. The reverse retains the wire support/stand construction traditionally used to display the piece upright while holding a place or calling card.
These unusual spider-and-web holders were used as decorative table accessories during the late Victorian and early 20th-century period and are now collectible examples of novelty antique tableware.

No sterling or other metal hallmark has been located. Metal content has not been tested, so this is being described as silver-tone/silver-plated metal rather than sterling silver.
Good antique condition with age-related patina, oxidation, surface wear and possible minor bends/irregularities to the delicate hand-worked wire consistent with age and use. Please examine all photographs closely for exact condition and construction.
Uncleaned and unpolished. It has been left in its found antique condition to preserve the original patina.
