Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic antique Victorian-era cut glass and brass inkwell, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1850–1900). This heavy, desk-sized piece features a beautifully faceted geometric crystal body with a matching hinged glass lid, sitting on an ornate brass base.
The main glass body is currently unattached to the square brass base tray (as shown in photos). This is a common occurrence with antique inkwells of this age due to the natural degradation of the original plaster/cement over time. It can easily be displayed as-is or permanently re-secured with standard clear glass-to-metal epoxy.
Features & Details:
• Material: Heavy, deep-cut clear crystal/glass body and lid; solid brass collar, hinge, and decorative base trim.
• Design: Classic block/faceted geometric styling that catches light beautifully.
• Base Markings: The underside features rare, hand-scratched jeweler or pawnbroker inventory numbers (\"H 25\" / \"X 3...\") etched into the brass surface—an excellent sign of authentic estate history and age.
• Condition: Good antique condition overall. The glass body and lid are remarkably clear with no major cracks. The brass has a wonderful, deep aged natural patina. There is some authentic green verdigris/ink oxidation on the inner rim of the collar which confirms its historic use.
Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to assess the unattached base and exact physical condition before offerding.
