Offered here is a beautiful antique Velvet Tobacco advertising display featuring the famous “Velvet Joe” imagery for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co.
The scene depicts three generations seated together with their pipes, a child holding a Velvet tobacco tin, an English Setter beside them, and a large open Velvet Tobacco tin prominently pictured at the lower left.
Across the top is the classic Velvet Joe advertising slogan:
“A man that loves kiddies an’ dogs an’ good tobacco may not be a saint, but—I’ll take a chance on him.”

The Velvet tobacco package shown in the artwork is clearly marked Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co.
The lower portion of the image is marked E-12368.
This example remains in an attractive period-style wood frame with a wide figured-grain appearance and black surround. The reverse shows considerable age, with an older backing and hanging wire. An old ownership/address stamp on the back of the frame reads B. G. Schletty, P.O. Box 186, Norwood, MN 55368.
Overall framed dimensions: approximately 25" × 32" × 1".
This is an impressive large-format piece of early American tobacco advertising and would display extremely well in a tobacco, country store, general store, advertising, Americana, or tobacciana collection.
Please study all photographs closely, as they are an important part of the condition description. Due to the age of the piece, normal age-related wear should be expected. I have made no attempt to clean, restore, or alter the piece.
