Antique University of Notre Dame Wood Shield Plaque with Metal SealBeautiful older University of Notre Dame wall plaque featuring a large raised metal university seal mounted on a dark-finished wooden shield. The metal medallion reads “University of Notre Dame – Notre Dame, Indiana” and features the historic Notre Dame coat of arms with two eagles and the Latin motto “CRUX SPES UNICA” (“The Cross, Our Only Hope”).The plaque has substantial older construction with a dark wood shield, raised metal medallion, traditional slotted mounting screws and an older-style metal ring hanger on the reverse.Measures approximately 12 inches tall and approximately 10 inches wide at its widest point. Please see the measurement photos for additional reference.Condition:
Good antique/vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The wood shows scratches, small marks, finish wear and other signs of age. The metal seal has an attractive aged patina. The reverse shows additional wear and aging. No maker’s mark or date was found.Age:
The exact age and manufacturer are unknown. The construction, aged wood, hardware and style of the Notre Dame seal appear consistent with an older piece. The University of Notre Dame Archives documents Notre Dame material bearing the “Crux Spes Unica” seal/motto from the early 20th century; however, this particular plaque has not been independently dated, so no specific production year is being represented.A particularly attractive piece of early-style Notre Dame memorabilia and a great display item for a Fighting Irish collector, Notre Dame alumnus, office, den or collegiate collection. Please review all photographs carefully for design, measurements and exact condition.
