Up for sale is an antique sterling silver calligraphy dip pen holder featuring a detailed repoussé floral scrollwork design along the handle. The metal collar is stamped with the "STERLING" purity hallmark, with no other manufacturer markings or text on the barrel.
Installed in the holder is a period-used, historic Spencerian Pen Co. No. 1 "Counting House" steel nib. The nib features a triple-stamp layout: "SPENCERIAN PEN CO No 1", "IVISON PHINNEY & CO", and "NEW YORK / ENGLAND". Because of the specific "Ivison Phinney & Co." publishing house imprint, the production of this steel nib dates precisely between 1859 and 1864, making it a genuine Civil War-era artifact.
This listing also includes the original broken Spencerian No. 1 nib barrel fragment that was found with the pen, preserving the complete lineage of the desk set. I did not clean it too much. I didn't want to take away from the natural look.
