For sale here is a True Original Antique Train or Locomotive Steam Powered Bell. I had originally thought it to be a Ship or Church bell, but was corrected. The bell has not be touched up or refinished as some other bells have, leaving the great finish that has taken years to achieve.
The bell sits on a very large heavy base and is housed in solid cast iron metal. I can one or two Chicago markings, one on the plaque and on the sides. There are more but the heavy patina hides some of the markings. There is a small plaque on the bottom base that can be scene in the photos. The natural patina around the arms does give the bell a nice rustic look. The bell itself is of solid brass and measures 12 inches tall by 17 inches wide. Including the body, the measurements are 29 inches tall by 27 inches wide.
The bell and housing weigh well over 125 pounds though it is tough to weigh such an item. It has been sitting outside the Palos Verdes Peninsula for the last 40 yrs and do not know where it came from before that. The mechanism to ring the bell does not work, we have tried to break it loose to use but have some to the conclusion that the bell might have been welded together.
The Clapper, however, is loose and works fine. It is around 10 inches long and produces a very very loud ring when the bell is moved.
Local pick up only. We'd be happy to help a delivery person pick up the bell.
