Antique Scottish Terrier Charcoal Drawing Signed NB Hensley Scottie Dog Art For Sale

A charming Scottish Terrier illustration showing a mischievous Scottie beside an overturned table and broken vessel. Full of character and humor, this would make a lovely addition to a dog lover’s collection. Signed at the lower right, appearing to read “N. B. Hensley.”AGE & BACKGROUNDBelieved to be antique, possibly dating to the late 1800s. My research into the signature suggests a possible connection to an artist working in London during that period. This drawing was found together with another dog illustration and an excerpt from The Illustrated London News dated May 23, 1891.These pieces came from a friend’s collection. Their association is part of the basis for the estimated age, although this drawing is undated and neither the artist’s identity nor its connection to the dated excerpt has been confirmed.CONDITIONPlease review the full-sheet photograph and close-ups carefully. The paper has a prominent area of brown staining across part of the upper margin, scattered spotting and age-related discoloration, light surface marks, a small reddish mark in the right margin, uneven/chipped edges, and a small tear along the bottom edge. The central illustration and signature appear intact, with the prominent upper stain situated above the illustrated scene. The cause of that staining is unknown, and it has not been professionally assessed or treated. Its removal cannot be guaranteed. The surrounding margins may allow for matting that conceals some of the wear, depending on the desired opening and presentation. Please account for the staining and edge damage when planning framing.APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONSFull sheet: approximately 15½ inches wide × 11 inches high.Illustrated scene, including the signature: estimated from the photographs at 8–9 inches wide × 4 inches high.Sold unframed, with the full sheet intact.
