Antique Schepp’s Cake Box advertising tin featuring elaborate lithographed scenes inspired by the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, including “Lotte” and “Dorothea.”
This unusual early advertising piece was produced as a decorative storage/display box for Schepp’s products. The exterior features detailed period illustrations, ornate borders, “SCHEPP’S CAKE BOX” lettering, hinged front door with latch, and metal carrying handle. The interior has a wood bottom insert. Interior shelving, if originally present, is no longer included.
Authentic antique piece with substantial age and wear. There is oxidation/rust throughout, heavier corrosion and surface loss on the bottom, staining, scratches, discoloration, lithograph/finish loss and general wear consistent with its age. The graphics remain remarkably visible and attractive for display. Door opens and closes.
This piece has been left in as-found condition and has not been cleaned, polished or restored.
Wonderful early advertising collectible with crossover appeal for collectors of antique tins, country store advertising, food and baking memorabilia, lithographed advertising and early kitchen collectibles.
