Part of a curated collection of antique Schafer & Vater novelty ceramics recently obtained from a longtime collector, this exceptional German figural flask titled “A GOOD SIP” dates to the early 1900s and beautifully captures the whimsical and slightly risqué humor for which Schafer & Vater became famous.Package store owners would gift these adorable flasks to their best customers back in the early 1900s.

This wonderfully theatrical porcelain novelty depicts a glamorous young lady emerging from a long-stem cocktail glass while kissing a monocled gentleman in tails and top hat. The sculpted base is richly decorated with colorful fruit clusters including grapes, pears, and apples, all rendered in vibrant hand-painted detail.

Blending romance, tavern humor, caricature, and cabaret-era charm, this piece is an outstanding example of early German novelty porcelain and displays beautifully from every angle.

Especially desirable is the presence of the original stopper/cork, still intact on the reverse — a feature often missing from surviving examples. The back retains the rich brown glaze associated with many authentic Schafer & Vater novelty pieces, and a faint remnant of the original Germany export mark remains visible on the underside.A fantastic addition to any collection of Schafer & Vater, German novelty porcelain, figural flasks, grotesque ceramics, antique barware, or cabaret-era decorative arts.

Condition:
Very nice antique condition with no chips or cracks observed. Age-appropriate wear consistent with over 100 years of age and display. Original stopper present and firmly closed; we did not attempt to remove. Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
