Offering this antique Scandinavian folk art bentwood box, often referred to as a "tina" or "tine" box (svepask in Swedish).
It is traditionally made using a "svepask" technique where a thin sheet of pine or birch wood is softened, bent into an oval shape, and lapped together.
The lid and sides features bright, stylized floral motifs. This painting technique is highly characteristic of traditional Rosemaling from Norway or Kurbits style painting from Dalarna, Sweden.
Historically, these beautiful hand-painted lidded containers were used to store valuable keepsakes, small items of clothing, sewing supplies, or small foodstuffs like butter. They were also frequently given as traditional bridal gifts.
