Authentic antique wooden complex molding plane manufactured by the renowned Sandusky Tool Company of Sandusky, Ohio. This highly collectible 19th-century woodworking tool is stamped No. 54 on the heel block and carves out a specialized 1-inch Scotia profile flanked by two sharp accent fillets (stepped architectural borders). This profile was heavily used by period carpenters to shape elegant, deep-curved crown and baseboard trim. The front nose displays a clear, scrolled Sandusky factory trademark stamp. The opposite heel features writing but unable to confirm what ("S S" and "H") cleanly struck into the rich beechwood body. Complete with its original matching wooden wedge and profiled steel cutting iron.
