Antique Rosenthal K476 Lady Cupid Figurine J May Signed Selb Bavaria Germany For Sale

Offered here is a beautiful antique Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria porcelain figurine, Model K476, depicting an elegantly seated Rococo lady accompanied by Cupid/cherub.

This is an especially striking Rosenthal art porcelain piece featuring elaborate hand-painted decoration, floral detailing and extensive gold gilt accents throughout the lady’s gown, pedestal and base. The fine modeling, delicate facial features and ornate decoration make this an impressive display piece from Rosenthal’s early art porcelain production.

The underside bears the Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria factory mark, impressed model number 476, along with a hand-painted “J. May” signature/mark, documented on other examples as a Rosenthal painter/decorator’s mark.

Model K476 is known as “Erwartung” (“Expectation”) / “Anticipation” and dates from Rosenthal’s early 20th-century production. The design dates to approximately 1917, with this example believed to have been produced during the 1920s.

CONDITION

This is an antique, pre-owned porcelain piece and should be expected to show minor signs of age and previous display but I could not locate any (I am far from an expert on items such as this). Please examine all photographs carefully, particularly the delicate fingers, Cupid/cherub, dress edges, gilding and other fine details, as the photographs are an important part of the condition description.

A scarce and highly decorative early Rosenthal figurine that would make an outstanding addition to a Rosenthal, German porcelain or antique figurine collection.

Will be packed extremely carefully for shipment due to the delicate nature of the piece.
