Description:Antique real photo postcard (RPPC) featuring a formal studio portrait of a young man, circa 1910s. He is seated in a side chair beside a small table with an open book or papers, one arm resting on the tabletop and the other on his knee. He wears a dark suit with a tall stiff white collar and dark tie, pressed trousers with cuffs, and laced leather boots, all set against a painted studio backdrop with a patterned wainscot. The sepia tones and detail are rich, with the soft focus typical of studio work from the period.
The back is imprinted with the photographer's studio name and address: Richard Kautto, 811 Main St., Fitchburg, Mass. It has a divided back with "Correspondence Here" and "Name and Address Here" and an AZO stamp box. The card is unposted, with no message or address. The subject is unidentified.
This is a nice piece of central Massachusetts photographic history, and a good fit for collectors of RPPCs, Fitchburg and Worcester County history, Edwardian men's fashion, and antique studio portraiture.
Measures approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".
Condition:Good antique condition with notable wear, as expected for its age. A crease runs down from the top edge into the upper image area. A second diagonal crease or emulsion crack crosses the upper right portion of the image to the right edge. There is a smaller crease line in the lower right of the image. A small faint red mark appears on the left margin. Corners are softly rounded, with light edge wear throughout. The back shows even age toning, scattered foxing spots, and a small pencil mark in the lower right corner. The image remains clear and the subject's face is undamaged.
