Antique real photo postcard (RPPC) showing a well-dressed couple in a formal studio portrait, circa late 1910s. The man is seated in a dark three-piece suit with a patterned tie, crossed legs, lace-up boots and a hat resting beside him. The woman stands next to him in a dark drop-waist dress with a large white lace collar and white cuffs. She wears an early wristwatch and a ring. The studio backdrop has a draped curtain, a floral arrangement and a brick-pillar prop.
The back has the embossed-style "POST CARD" heading, a divided back marked "CORRESPONDENCE HERE" and "NAME AND ADDRESS HERE," and "MADE IN CANADA" printed at the center. The stamp box is the AZO style with triangles in the corners. The card is unposted and has no message. The only marking is a small pencil notation in the upper right corner of the back.
The sitters are unidentified. This is a good piece for collectors of vintage photography, early 20th-century fashion (drop-waist dress, early women's wristwatch, men's suiting), Canadian RPPCs, or anyone who collects vintage "found photo" portraits.
Measures approximately 5 3/8" x 3 3/8".
Condition:Good antique condition with honest wear for its age. A crease or crack in the photo surface runs across the lower part of the image, through the man's legs and toward the woman's side, with small spots of surface loss along the line. The crease also shows on the back. The corners are softened and rounded, and the edges show wear and toning. The back has light foxing and scattered brown spots, most of them in the upper left. There is a faint pink mark along the right edge of the front, a small spot on the man's forehead and small brown spots along the bottom edge. The image is still clear, with good contrast and detail.
