This is one of two incredibly RARE BRONZE PLAQUES by Louis Bourgonjon Produced in the
J.K.C. Sneltjes foundry.
This Plaque is of a man. The last photo shows both plaques being listed in separate options. This sale is for one plaque featured only of a man.
I believe this plaque is extremely special as this plaque represents a direct collaboration between two major names in early 20th-century Dutch art history: Louis Bourgonjon as the artist who modeled the portrait in wax or plaster, and J.K.C. Sneltjes in Haarlem as the elite art foundry tasked with transferring that model into permanent, expertly chased bronze.
Given Bourgonjon’s deep ties to academic, architectural, and corporate circles in Amsterdam and Haarlem, this plaque likely commemorates a specific prominent Dutch civic leader, institutional director, or academic contemporary active around 1900–1915 But I’m not sure who this man would be.
The plaque is in overall wonderful condition measuring approximately 7” x 4 and three-quarter inches.
The Louis Bourgonjon is at the bottom of the man’s figure while the foundry name is on the back.
