A striking matched pair of antique Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer covered goblets, finely hand-carved with scholar figures in landscape settings. Executed in thick multi-layer cinnabar lacquer over a copper core, a traditional and highly regarded technique.
Each vessel stands on an elaborately carved pedestal base and retains its original fitted cover. The interior shows the characteristic blue-green coating over metal, consistent with age and construction.
