Up for sale is a rare, historically significant original late-19th-century photographic print capturing a local New Brunswick, New Jersey volunteer fire company (highly likely Engine Company No. 1 based on uniforms) posing proudly outside their stationhouse.
This exceptional piece of New Jersey history showcases a full company of uniformed firefighters wearing traditional fire helmets marked with the number "1." Positioned prominently alongside them is a beautifully detailed horse-drawn fire apparatus, complete with hoses and equipment, ready for active duty.
What makes this specific photograph exceptionally collectible is the crisp, clear imprint text along the bottom border identifying the studio: "TOLMAN & FIELDMAN, View Photographers, 14 HIRAM STREET, NEW BRUNSWICK, N. J." Historical photographic record directories narrow this specific partnership between Edward W. Tolman and Isador Fieldman exclusively to a brief two-year window from 1895 to 1897, providing this photograph with an airtight provenance and precise dating.
