Pair of antique mirror-image putti or boy figures with flowering bocage made by Edmé Samson et Cie (Paris, active C1845–1920s) copying 18th century examples made by Chelsea Porcelain Factory (London, active C1756–1769).
The figures are draped in pink and yellow patterned cloth, each carrying a wicker basket filled with meticulously applied porcelain flowers. Each stand before a circular, densely flowered bocage (foliage background) typical of classic English porcelain designs. The figurines rest on highly decorative, pierced Rococo scrollwork bases detailed with gold and pink enamel accents.
Made by Samson et Cie (founded by Edmé Samson in Paris), a firm specialized in creating museum-quality reproductions of 18th-century ceramics. Genuine Samson pieces are highly sought after by collectors today.
On reverse are pseudo gold anchor marks to mimic the marks found on original 18th century Chelsea pieces. The figures measure approximately 7 or 6 7/8 inches tall by 4 1/8 inches wide by 3 inches deep and collectively weigh approximately 1.9 pounds. The figures each have areas of damage. One figure has damage to its base and arm. The other has damage to a hand. Both have damage to the bocage as shown in photos.
