Up for sale is an authentic, original antique fraternal organization pinback button for the United Spanish War Veterans (USWV), commemorating service from 1898–1902.
This beautiful, oval-shaped celluloid button features the official USWV insignia printed in sharp red ink over a classic aged-yellow background. The central design beautifully depicts a soldier and a sailor flanking a kneeling figure, surrounded by military iconography including crossed sabers, crossed rifles, a field piece, and an anchor representing all branches of service.
Manufacturer & Authenticity:
The reverse side retains its original paper insert from the legendary Whitehead & Hoag Co. of Newark, New Jersey, the premier manufacturer of novelty badges and buttons during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Condition Report:
Front: The celluloid face is in great antique condition with a glossy finish. There is standard, honest aging/toning to the yellow color and minimal surface wear.
Back: The original metal straight-pin is intact and functional. The Whitehead & Hoag paper backing shows some light tearing and partial paper loss (as shown in photos), but the manufacturer's text remains clearly legible.
