Antique Old Sleepy Eye stoneware pitcher by Western Stoneware Company, Monmouth, Illinois, dating to the early 1900s.
This is the desirable approximately 8-inch size, featuring the classic Old Sleepy Eye design in deep cobalt blue over a warm cream-colored glaze. The raised scenic decoration wraps around the pitcher with teepees, trees and Native American imagery, finished with a dark cobalt molded handle and gracefully shaped pouring spout.
The underside retains the WSCO / Monmouth diamond mark for Western Stoneware Company.
Beautiful authentic age throughout, including overall glaze crazing, discoloration/staining, surface wear and imperfections consistent with an antique stoneware piece. There is a small chip/flake along the upper rim, shown closely in the photos. Interior shows staining and residue from age and use.
Estate found and being sold exactly as found. I have not cleaned or dusted this piece. Please review all photos carefully for condition and details, as they are part of the description.
A wonderful example of Old Sleepy Eye advertising stoneware and a great addition to a collection of Western Stoneware, Monmouth pottery, antique American stoneware or early advertising pieces.
