Antique National Products Inc Chicago Black Americana Cry Baby Pot Metal Ashtray For Sale

Up for sale/sale is a highly collectible, authentic early 20th-century figural novelty piece manufactured by National Products, Inc. out of Chicago, Illinois. Stamped on the structure, this piece is historically known as the "Cry Baby" novelty ashtray. It features a detailed two-part composition depicting a child with an open-mouthed crying expression sitting atop a white chamber pot.
Historically utilized as a whimsical tobacciana piece, a cigarette can be placed in the hollow pot compartment to let smoke billow dramatically out of the figure's open mouth.
This authentic antique is cast from heavy white metal / pot metal alloy. It has substantial weight for its size, which allowed National Products Inc. to achieve much smoother contours and finer structural details than basic cast iron alternatives.

This item is in Good Antique Condition with an honest, uncleaned aged patina.

• Paint/Finish: Retains portions of its original cold-painted finish. There is distinct paint chipping and enamel flaking on the white chamber pot and body from decades of age, beautifully revealing the silver-gray oxidized white metal underneath.
• Structure: Sound structural integrity. The casting has no cracks, missing pieces, or structural repairs. The top figure separates and nests onto the lower chamber pot cleanly as originally intended.
