This matching set includes a 10-inch display cabinet plate and a uniquely shaped handled square bowl measuring 6 by 6-1/2 inches.Dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho era (circa 1891-1921), the Woodland pattern is highly coveted for its distinct, storybook Arts & Crafts style. The hand-painted scene centers on towering stylized trees with a winding path leading to a countryside cottage against a soft, golden-hued sky and a lake background. The outlines are meticulously rendered in thick, raised black enamel moriage tube-lining, which provides a rich tactile texture. The elaborate borders are decorated with heraldic geometric cross patterns, lions, and shields.The square bowl features a hand-painted handle on one side and a beautiful scalloped, organic wavy rim profile.
