Looks to refinished / polished at some point by a previous owner. Shows wear to the wood frame. Looks like a previously repaired crack in wood near the bottom. Some other smaller cracks / splits in wood.
Not sure if knob is ebony?, shows some dings on top and a larger shallow chip on the underside.
