Antique Large Master Knife Rests Pair MOP Silver Plate Brass Victorian Edwardian For Sale

Matched pair of late Victorian or Edwardian master knife rests most likely 1890-1910. Natural mother-of-pearl center bar mounted over a threaded internal rod, engraved brass ferrules, and ornate silver-plated metal terminals. Beaded arch supports, and turned urn-shaped finials. These are uniquely different than the common ball-end style rests.

Larger master form traditionally used together for a carving knife and fork at almost 5" long and quite heavy for their size. Unsigned, design language is consistent with English or Continental.

• Good antique condition overall. One very small chip near ferrule rotated to under-side of mother-of-pearl insert, approx 1mm x 2mm.
• All pieces seat very tightly and they sit square on a flat surface.
• Scattered surface wear, scratches, and localized oxidization.
• Silver plating remains generally intact, with localized incompleteness, under the feet, inside the beaded profile, etc.
• The brass ferrules retain their engraved foliate decoration and are not split.
• Gently polished using silver wipes only, no conservation performed beyond light wipe down.
