Offered for sale is an antique Keuffel & Esser Co. compensated aneroid barometer, marked “KEUFFEL & ESSER CO. N.Y.” and “ENGLAND” on the dial.
This beautiful antique scientific/surveying instrument comes with its original fitted leather case with red fabric lining.
ORIGINAL 1935 KEUFFEL & ESSER PAPERWORK
One of the most special features of this piece is the original Keuffel & Esser inspection/comparison paper found inside the case with the instrument.
The document is dated July 23, 1935 and contains handwritten pressure comparison readings.
The paper is printed with the Keuffel & Esser Co. name and locations and explains the comparison of the aneroid with a standard mercurial barometer.
The original 1935 document is included with the sale.
ADDITIONAL MARKINGS
The back of the brass instrument is marked:
USBPR – VA No. 434
R 2–14–2
The exact meaning of these markings has not been independently confirmed, so they are included in the listing exactly as observed.
INSTRUMENT
The dial features the traditional weather indications:
RAIN • CHANGE • FAIR
along with the pressure and altitude scales.
The instrument has an attractive aged brass finish and the character expected from an antique scientific instrument.
The style appears consistent with the Keuffel & Esser pocket-pattern compensated aneroid barometers, including the type produced with a 6,000-foot altitude scale.
CONDITION
This is an antique item with considerable age and original wear.
The leather carrying case shows significant surface wear, scuffing, discoloration and signs of age.
The original red fabric lining also shows age and wear.
The brass instrument has an aged/patinated appearance with surface wear consistent with its age.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photographs are an important part of the description.
The barometer has not been professionally tested or calibrated. I cannot guarantee its accuracy or mechanical functionality.
It is being sold as pictured and as-is.
I have not polished or refinished the brass or leather, as I believe the original aged condition, markings and patina are part of the character and history of this piece.
