Antique John Honey Fitz Fitzgerald ? Portrait Photo JFK Grandfather Boston Mayor Description

Antique Framed Portrait Photograph of John Francis “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald

Please be advised. Comment from viewer " Hi, just an FYI - this is not Honey Fitz." We are not experts but is is of the period and looks very much like him.

Most likely taken by Theodore C. Marceau.

Wonderful antique black-and-white portrait photograph depicting John Francis “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald (1863–1950), prominent Boston politician and maternal grandfather of President John F. Kennedy.

Fitzgerald served as a U.S. Congressman and as Mayor of Boston and became one of the best-known figures in early 20th-century Boston politics. He was the father of Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and therefore grandfather of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy.

The portrait shows Fitzgerald formally dressed and seated in an exceptionally ornate carved chair. Based on the appearance and period styling, the photograph appears to date from approximately the early 1900s to 1910s. (Most likely 1906).

The photograph remains housed under its original-looking glass and wide muted green/gray mat in an attractive period wooden frame. The frame has decorative applied metal corner ornaments that give the piece considerable antique character.

Approximate overall size: 9" x 11"
Glass: Intact

Condition

Antique/used condition with age-related wear. The photograph shows age, fading/toning and scattered surface spotting or marks visible through the glass. Mat shows age and discoloration. The wooden frame has wear and is fragile, with separation/damage at the corners and areas requiring repair or stabilization. Decorative corner pieces show age-related wear. The glass is intact. The reverse retains old backing materials, tape and hanging wire. Please examine all photographs closely for condition.
