Antique J. Russell & Co. Green River Works fixed-blade skinning knife, believed to date to the late 19th century.

Blade is deeply stamped “J. RUSSELL & CO. / GREEN RIVER WORKS” above the company\'s diamond trademark.

This example features an approximately 6-inch upswept/curved blade, full tapered tang, wood handle scales and five handle pins. Overall length is approximately 10½ inches.

Research on Green River Works knives indicates that the five-pin wood-handle construction and this mechanically stamped J. Russell & Co. / Green River Works trademark are consistent with late-19th-century production. Similar knives appear in period Russell catalogs. Exact year of manufacture is unknown, so no specific production year is guaranteed.

This is an extensively used antique knife and remains in unrestored/as-found condition. The blade has substantial age-related patina, oxidation, staining, pitting, scratches, sharpening/use wear and discoloration. The blade edge shows wear from previous use and sharpening. Wood handle scales show substantial age and handling wear, scratches, discoloration and surface deterioration. Pins and metal fittings show oxidation and wear. No sheath is included.

The knife has not been cleaned, polished, restored or sharpened by me.
