An attractive antique brass monocular microscope by J & C Robbins of 146 Aldersgate Street, London, circa 1860-70
The microscope retains its original brass maker’s plaque to the base, together with its substantial brass construction, adjustable stage, focusing controls and mirror.
Accompanied by its fitted wooden carrying cabinet with brass handle, internal storage drawer and key, together with a selection of additional brass optical components, fittings, specimen slides and preparation tools, all as photographed. One slide broke when photographing. It also has a more modern beck lens included
The collection includes a number of prepared glass microscope slides, some with handwritten zoological labels, along with additional loose accessories.
A particularly appealing period scientific instrument, retaining an attractive aged patina to the brass and considerable character throughout.
Condition is consistent with age and use, including surface wear, tarnishing and marks to the microscope, cabinet and accessories. Some slides show deterioration or damage. The contents may not be complete, and the microscope has not been optically or mechanically tested.
An interesting addition to a collection of antique scientific instruments, microscopy equipment or Victorian medical and educational apparatus.
Please study the photographs carefully for the exact contents and overall condition.
