Likely dating from approximately the 1930s–1950s, this petite rosary was probably produced for a child—quite possibly as a First Communion keepsake. It features tiny opaque pink glass seed beads individually linked along a lightweight silvery metal chain. The delicate crucifix bears a raised figure of Christ, while the center medal depicts the Virgin Mary with the traditional Marian “M” emblem on the reverse.
A separate round metal medallion is clearly hand-stamped “MADE IN ITALY.” The crucifix, medal, chain, and findings appear to be lightweight aluminum or a similar silver-colored base metal rather than sterling silver.
The rosary measures approximately 9 inches tall overall when arranged, consisting of a 6-inch doubled loop—approximately 12 inches around—with a 3-inch drop to the bottom of the crucifix.
Its original creamy ivory-colored egg case separates at the center and screws securely back together. The little case allowed the rosary to be carried safely in a pocket, purse, schoolbag, or First Communion keepsake box. Finding one still accompanied by its correctly sized case adds greatly to its charm and display appeal.
Condition
Very good vintage condition. The rosary appears complete and remains together, with attractive pink beads and naturally aged metal surfaces. The original egg case opens and screws closed properly. The case shows mild age-related discoloration and small surface marks but no obvious major cracking or losses. Please examine all photographs closely.
