Antique Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) beaded trinket or jewelry box, dating to approximately 1890–1915.
This charming handmade box is constructed over a rigid cardboard form and completely covered with intricate translucent white seed beads accented by steel-cut beads.
The lid and sides feature raised floral and geometric motifs characteristic of Iroquois souvenir beadwork produced in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Boxes of this type were often made by Haudenosaunee artisans in New York and Ontario and sold as keepsakes to travelers visiting destinations such as Niagara Falls and the Thousand Islands.
This example retains its original fabric-lined interior and is an attractive survivor despite its age.
Condition:
