Antique Handmade Copper Couscousier North Africa Moroccan Couscous Pot
Rare early 1900's handmade solid copper couscous 2 piece cooking vessel
A couscoussier is a piece of traditional North African cookware most often associated with Moroccancuisine. The double-chamber pot allows you to steam couscous while simultaneously preparing a stewto serve on top of the couscous.
Information provided to me by a wonderful fellow er:"The Berbers, an ethnic group native to Northwest Africa, are widely credited with inventing couscous over 2,000 years ago. Some say the dish originated in Algeria and Morocco between the end of the 11th-century Zirid dynasty and the rise of the 13th-century Almohad Caliphate."This rare find comes from the estate of a local antique store owner. It's wonderful patina displays beautifully.I show many views of both pieces so you can see the craftsmanship and antiquity of this treasure. I can find no makers mark. It is a thick metal/copper, especially the bottom of the pot. Pot holdswater, no leaks.
